This upload consists of two fully marked skins representing the aircraft flown by close friends Flying Officers Larry Cronin (RAAF) and Alan Peart (RNZAF) of 81 Squadron RAF over India and Burma. Please note that Peart's aircraft (FL-E, JF818)
was an LF.VIII (the type we have in-game) and so was powered by the Merlin 66, however Cronin's aircraft (FL-C, JF630) was a Merlin 63 powered F.VIII (so I've faked the fuel cooler in the port wing root) and had a smaller, older style rudder.
Both aircraft display the squadron's markings of a red spinner and the Ace of Spades emblem, over which Cronin applied his 5 kill markings (3 Luftwaffe scored in the MTO and 2 Japanese).
It should also be noted that Peart's aircraft was the one he flew during his epic fight over the Broadway airstrip on 17 March 1944, when he and Squadron Leader W. M. 'Babe' Whitamore took off when the strip was strafed by four Ki-43, only to find another
24+ Oscars overhead. Whitamore shot down one but was then shot down and killed in turn. Peart spent the next 40 minutes being mobbed by the Ki-43s (although he did shoot one down) untill they withdrew due to a lack of fuel. When he landed his fuel tank
was virtually empty while the seat armour plate had saved Peart from an explosive shell. On top of that the violent manoeuvres he had performed had broken an engine mount, sprung rivets around the tail section and the wing dihedral was badly altered.

Template and skin by myself, HBPencil. It is a reworked version of a Mk VIII template I made years ago so although the vast majority of the work is mine there are some elements from the old Mk VIII void file, namely small bits of the mech/internals.
